Every year when the weather starts to get warm and the sun starts hanging around later into the evening, I get the camping bug. But before I head out to the great outdoors, I have to make sure that I'd be...
This is an absolute must if you are looking to take your Java with you in any situation because, trust me, when you are waking up at six in the morning in the great outdoors, then you are definitely going to need some coffee to wake you up!
The great thing about coffee is that it is such a convenient and wonderful substance, making it even easier to brew in an outdoor setting. If you are looking to make a premium cup of Joe when camping, then there are a few options available to you to make your life even easier. One thing that you can invest in is a travel French press, which is going to help you bring the decadent and rich flavors of your Java into the wild with you. There are some French press pots that are suitable for outdoor travel, such as the Bodum brands that are made of unbreakable polycarbonate glass, but otherwise you can purchase a specific travel French press for that purpose. A travel French press will enable you to use hot water and a scoop of coffee to extract for under a minute, and then strain out into a delicious brew. This is the ultimate convenience that you need when you are camping because it will allow you to freshly and easily make a cup of coffee, and it is so much better than instant any day!
If you're looking to get a little bit more mountain man and brew a cup of Joe over the campfire, then it is best to invest in a Stovetop Espresso Pot or Moka pot. This is a mechanism that has two separate chambers, and you place the coffee grounds in between the two. You will fill the bottom chamber up with water, and put the coffee grounds in the center compartment. You can then place your Stovetop Espresso Maker directly over your fire, and when the water begins to boil, it will push up the coffee grounds into the top chamber for delicious final product. This is an incredibly easy way of making campfire coffee, and you also will have a fresh and delicious taste when you are done!
Otherwise, your last choice in campfire coffee will be a Turkish coffee, which is a stronger brew for anyone who is game. All you have to do is bring your Turkish coffee pot with you, as well as very, very finely ground coffee (almost to a powder). You can directly boil the water and coffee grounds in the Turkish coffee pot over heat, and when it is finished, the grounds will settle to the bottom. Make sure that you allow them to settle completely before drinking your dark and rich Java product!
I can promise you that all of these options will make your camping experience that much more memorable, especially since they will give you the kick you need to wake you up for an early morning in nature. Perfect for a rustic setting!

The moka pot does work well, though there really isn't a good way to grind beans unless you have electricity... maybe invest in a manual hand grinder. If you pre-grind before you leave for your trip, you'll get the caffeine kick you're looking for still, but not the delicate coffee flavors that makes coffee enjoyable.
